After
nearly a decade of conflict people in Poso, Indonesia, still bear the trauma,
misunderstanding, and mistrust towards other communities and religions. The
distrust is rooted in the social-economic backgrounds and origins of other
communities, for example between the displaced people's communities (IDP) and
locals due to the conflict. This condition has caused the hindrance of the
social-economic reintegration process after the conflict. The condition has worsened after the conflict
with development policies that exploit Poso's natural resources without giving
economic opportunities to the population.
The policy has caused the indigenous people to lose their income as
cacoa farmers. Compared to the newly immigrated communities from different
religions and ethnic backgrounds who are mostly traders who controls the price,
this policy has enlarged the economic differences which in turn has rekindled
the social-economic jealousy that originally caused the Poso conflict.
Women
are the most affected by conflicts and displacement. But they are mostly
alienated from post-conflict development planning processes both at community
level and regional level. This contributes to more severe burdens of poverty
for women (and hence children). Religion and culture influence the perception
of women as the second class citizens and therefore they remain voiceless and
their participation is considered less significant.
At the same time, there are no women legislators at
District Parliament of Poso which causes a gender bias in social, economic,
political and cultural policies and development. The development plans have
ignored the role of women, do not involve women, and do not consider the condition
of women.
so, this is my project : to produce an Interfaith Women's Movement for Peace and Fulfillment Covenant on Economic, Social, Cultural, and Political Civil Rights through Women's School. The Women's School is an alternative school that server for strengthening and empowering women in Poso. The school is carried out in 14 villages in four sub-district of Poso. It has successfully educated over 100 women in the following eight topics:
1. Peace and Tolerance Curriculum
2. Gender Curriculum
3. Women and Culture Curriculum
4. Talking and reasoning skills curriculum
5. Women and Politics curriculum
6. Right's Curriculum in Public Service
7. Curriculum on economic, social, culture and civil political rights
8. Community economic management curriculum.
